California Love: Tahoe
Few destinations provide endless entertainment in both summer and winter, but Lake Tahoe is certainly one of them. Though we’ve got a lot of love for the South Shore (which is technically in Nevada) this post is all about the Californian North Shore. Once you hit the lake you must abide by the #1 rule: get outside ASAP.
Enjoy Lunch With a View
Dine at any of the lakeside restaurants, many with boat-right-up service, and watch the sun set—or the snow fall—over the forest.
Stick Your Toes in the Sand
Brave souls hop in the lake during scorching summer months (though the water stays pretty chilly most of the year). Not up for a dip? You can still take in the amazing views at a handful of public beaches like Sand Harbor and 64 Acres Beach.
Hit the Slopes
For boarding and skiing enthusiasts and novices alike, Tahoe is the best spot in California to ride powder. If you’re visiting in the summer, Heavenly Mountain Resort offers helicopter and hot air balloon rides over the sprawling peaks and valleys.
Hike It Out
Countless paths run through the wooded Tahoe region. Find a few of the famous ones online—or ask a local their favorite route—then grab your water bottle and hit the trail.
Take to the Water
Rent a kayak, jetski, paddle board, boat, tube, waterskis…or any number of recreational open-water activities. The water is crystal clear, so keep your eyes peeled for fish.
Soak in a Hot Spring
If you’re up for a quick jaunt, head to the Sierra Hot Springs 40 miles north of Tahoe for guaranteed relaxation.
Lodge in Style
Summer months provide warm days and cool nights perfect for camping, but a rustic log cabin is always a cozy experience.
