Desk Organization

Albert Einstein once said,

Three Rules of Work:
Out of clutter find simplicity.
From discord find harmony.
In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.

Undoubtedly all good advice, but finding simplicity within clutter is easier said then done—especially in a hectic work environment. Follow these quick tips and watch your productivity soar while your clutter whittles away.

Don’t know where to start?

Snap a photo of your desk and look at it from a different angle for a little outside-the-box perspective.

Embrace a purge. Be honest with yourself about what you need and what you don’t. Less mess = less stress.

Seek Pinspiration. Check out aspirational setups and determine what you like (and don’t) in a work environment.

Once you’re rolling…

Love your label maker. Sort everything you use and mark it accordingly so everything has a proper home.

Utilize every inch and use magnets to hide cords behind your monitor, hang your headphones over a drawer handle and put your corkboard to good use.

Make it comfy. Set up your space with ergonomics in mind to promote a healthy posture (and motivation to spend time at your desk).

Put up something pretty. Low-maintenance plants, pictures of loved ones, bright Poppin accessories and inspirational quotes make the best deskmates.

Maintenance is key.

Create a system. Mark all projects by status (To Do, Waiting On Response, Out The Door, etc.). Don’t let loose papers end up outside their appropriate piles.

Store important documents digitally and file the rest away. A reduction in papers will make a world of difference.

Keep your inbox organized along with your drawers. Create folders similar to those on your desk and spend 5 minutes a day filing your inbox.

Get a routine. Make Fridays your designated time to organize papers, wipe down your desk, water your plants, etc.
