9 Overnight Beauty Hacks That Make Your Sleep Productive

By Wendy Rose Gould | December 26, 2018

Raise your hand if you have too much time. Oh wait, we don’t either. That’s why we’re sharing our favorite overnight beauty tips for getting the most out of sleeping hours. From products that’ll give you extra bouncy, vibrant skin in the morning — like our much-loved SKINLONGEVITY Sleeping Gel cream — to DIY beauty tricks including common household items, these hacks put the beauty in your beauty sleep.

Grow Your Lashes with a Serum

It won’t yield an instant overnight transformation, but applying a growth serum to your lash line every evening can result in more length and volume over the course of a few weeks. Home lash growth remedies, including castor oil, have been debunked, but there are a handful of products out there that claim to be scientifically formulated to expedite growth. Well-reviewed examples include LashFOOD’s Phyto-Medic Eyelash Enhancer and Grande Cosmetics’ Grande LASH – MD Lash Enhancing Serum. Simply apply a small amount across your clean, dry lash line and gently wipe away any excess in the morning.

Scrub and Hydrate Your Lips

A homemade lip scrub is arguably one of the easiest and most effective DIY beauty hacks, so why not go for it? Take about a teaspoon of sugar, add enough drops of coconut or olive oil until you have a paste, and then use your index finger to gently scrub flaky bits off your lips. Let the scrub set for about a minute, then wipe it away the excess with a warm, damp cloth. Follow with your favorite balm and you’ll wake up to lips that are softer than your pillow.

Slather on Sleeping Creams

We’d be remiss if we didn’t sing a lullaby about the importance of your nighttime skincare regimen. After all, this is the time when your body — and skin — is in repair mode. That’s why we have a few overnight beauty tips for face cleansing and moisturizing.

Cleansing is always step one since it removes makeup, oil, dirt and built-up grime that accumulates on your face throughout the day. Once you feel squeaky clean, reach for a cream made specifically for overnight use. We’re especially partial to our SKINLONGEVITY Vital Power Sleeping Gel Cream, which features skin-plumping Hyaluronic Acid. It also contains antioxidant-rich Poppy Extract, moisturizing Red Algae, and Long Life Herb Extract to ward off signs of aging.

Apply Dry Shampoo Before Sleeping

If you’re trying to get just one more day out of your hairstyle, one simple yet effective hack is to apply dry shampoo to your roots before you go to bed. Why spray so much earlier than your morning starts? Because the extra time allows the formula to better absorb excess oil, so you’ll wake up with fresh, bouncy hair, sans oily roots.

Prep Your Hair for Glorious Waves

No time for a 2-hour hair styling session in the morning? Welcome to the “I’m giving my blow dryer a rest” club. Membership doesn’t mean you’re forced to deal with crazy hair days, though. Before going to sleep, comb a dollop of styling mousse through damp hair, then create two to three loose 3-strand braids, depending on your hair thickness and length. In the morning, remove the braids and apply both anti-frizz serum and texturizing spray for piece-y, effortless hair.

Spot Treat Your Zits

One of our favorite overnight beauty tips for glowing face results? Tackling pimples at night means you’re less likely to touch and pick at your face (AKA a recipe for a zit that won’t quit). It also means you don’t have to deal with others asking, “What’s on your face?” while sporting your preferred spot treatment. Hydrocolloid bandages — available at any drugstore — offer surprisingly powerful overnight pimple cure. They help de-gunk the skin’s surface, reducing pimple size and redness. To use, just cut the bandage into the desired size, apply onto clean skin and wake up feeling in control of your breakout. Oh, and if you deal with blemishes on the regular, an all-over treatment, like the bareMinerals BLEMISH REMEDY Acne Clearing Treatment Serum can also help combat the issue.

Hydrate All Night Long with a Humidifier

Talk to any dermatologist and they’ll repeat the same few bits of advice: always wear sunscreen, use a retinoid, and invest in a humidifier. Homes are notoriously dry — especially in the winter — and can wreak havoc on your hair, lips and skin. Keeping a humidifier in your bedroom will dramatically help improve the quality of all the above. Just make sure you’re cleaning it regularly.

Indulge in a Silk Pillowcase

While there’s not a lot of science that points to silk pillowcases combatting signs of premature aging, they do have some other worthwhile benefits. For starters, they can help reduce sleep-related creases. Let’s be honest — nobody wants to walk into the office with those tell-tale marks of hitting the snooze button! Secondly, silk pillowcases can help prevent tugging at your hair, which means fewer split ends, less bedhead and more confidence-inducing good hair days. Lastly, silk feels cooler to the touch (and arguably more comfortable) than traditional cotton and polyester pillows, which may help you sleep more soundly.

Nourish Your Body

In the same way you fuel your body throughout the day with antioxidant-rich fruits and veggies, proteins, and your daily water intake, you can nourish your body while you sleep. A healthy diet is step one, but just like you take your morning vitamins, you may want to consider nighttime supplements.

For example, Moon Juice’s Dream Dust contains an adaptogenic blend of herbs that help you de-stress and sleep better through the night, and The Beauty Chef’s Sleep Inner Beauty Powder contains a mixture of Lemon Balm, Sour Cherry Extract, Turmeric, and Probiotics to improve digestion, bolster your immune system and reduce tension. If you prefer pills over powder, RMD’s NOX Blend is a beautifying, sleep-promoting option. It contains anti-inflammatory Nicotinamide, calming Lemon Balm and Melatonin.
