What Editors Are Saying About Clean Beauty

By Genevieve Ernst | January 22, 2019

It’s no secret that we were an early player in the clean beauty movement. With the 1995 launch of our now cult-favorite loose foundation, bareMinerals became a beauty bag staple for millions of women across the country. At the time, it was a revolutionary concept: makeup made from only five minerals that actually improved your skin over time. As the has brand evolved, our range of offerings of course increased, but our core tenants have never wavered: good-for-skin formulas and incredible payoff.

Over the past few months, we took a look at the news wires to see what beauty editors and influencers have been saying about the power of clean beauty. Below, some of our favorite sound bites.

“In the past few years, it’s become increasingly clear that certain ingredients in your makeup, skincare, and haircare products may come with concerning side effects. And while transitioning your entire beauty routine to clean, effective formulas can seem overwhelming, it doesn’t have to be hard. (Seriously!) With an OG clean beauty brand like bareMinerals, it’s easier than you think.”

“As one of the most popular It girls on Instagram, [Hailey] Baldwin has pretty much every beauty brand at her beck and call—but there’s one she holds near and dear to her heart: bareMinerals, which she just joined as brand ambassador…. As I sit across from the model, I can’t help but notice Baldwin’s sunkissed, luminous natural glow (courtesy of celebrity makeup artist Nikki DeRoest). Is it the sun peeking through the luxury suite’s window? Or does she really just naturally glow like that? ‘It’s the BAREPRO Glow Liquid Highlighter—my absolute favorite,” [Baldwin] says. “When it comes to putting on makeup, the less steps I can take, the better for me. I love to use this product on my cheeks because it serves as a highlighter and blush at the same time—it’s the best of both worlds.’”

-Nerisha Penrose, Elle.com

“On top of staying heavily moisturized, [Hailey] Baldwin likes to keep things simple when it comes to her makeup. She told us that her everyday look consists of a bit of concealer, powder, and a solid mascara. Her favorite tube that stays smudge-free through the heat, humidity, and tears, natch comes from the brand which she now fronts.”

-Erin Lukas, InStyle

“Lately, I’ve been switching out a lot my skin care products with ones that are cleaner and more natural. I feel like if there are options that are just as effective and gentle that don’t contain certain red-flag ingredients, why not use them? It seems like a smart investment in my skin long-term.”

-Lexi, Digital Content Director, as quoted in The Zoe Report

“After years of struggling with acne and hiding behind layers of thick foundation, I finally feel confident in my skin. These days, I prefer to follow a “less is more” approach, and gravitate toward products that let my skin breathe a bit, rather than cover it up completely. In my quest to find the best foundation alternative, I’ve tried BB creams, CC creams, tinted moisturizers and more, but no product has risen to the occasion quite like bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Hydrating Gel Cream. The fan fave has 80,000 likes at Sephora and over 2,000 reviews — not to mention several beauty awards — so I’m not alone in my obsession.”

-Chrissy Callahan, Today.com

“An easy way to avoid reading the fine print of every label in your medicine cabinet is to simply choose brands that are committed to quality ingredients. Take bareMinerals, for instance. Its hero product, the ORIGINAL Loose Powder Foundation SPF 15, has only five clean mineral ingredients. And the entire line is also non-toxic, cruelty-free, and totally clean without compromise.”

-Lexi Novak, Bustle

“ORIGINAL Loose Powder Foundation is made with only five ingredients. Count ’em: titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, bismuth oxycloride, mica, and iron oxides. When was the last time you saw an ingredient list that short?”

Allure

“Bare products are also formulated specifically for all five skin types—normal, oily, dry, combo, and sensitive—which means that no matter what type you have, you’ll be covered.”

“Choosing a beauty brand that’s transparent about their ingredients and that has a commitment to being full of what’s beneficial and free of what’s potentially harmful will set you on your way to creating a safe space for your face.”

“I genuinely feel more comfortable in my skin,” says [beauty influencer] Nubiana Liloutee, who also stays true to her ideals by supporting brands that offer a wide variety of shades for a diverse range of skin tones. So she loves the bareMinerals cult-favorite ORIGINAL Loose Powder Foundation, which offers 30 universally flattering shades (hers is Medium Dark 23) that are buildable and blendable to make anyone and everyone look and feel amazing.”

-Teen Vogue

“Hailey Bieber is a breath of fresh air….It makes sense that Hailey Bieber is a face of bareMinerals because much like the brand, she’s just consistently her, and she’s aware of her quality so she doesn’t feel a pressing need to overcompensate for relevance. After our conversation it was clear why her celebrity sticks. Sure, her maiden and married last names come with lofty privileges. But it’s her candor that keeps the attention of her 16-plus million Instagram followers.”

-Essence Gant, Buzzfeed

“Historically, mascaras were the toughest type of makeup to clean up, since they touch the eye area (aka bacteria central) and therefore require more preservatives. But this volumizing formula [bareMinerals LASHTOPIA Mascara] coats lashes with super dark mineral pigments that thicken and lengthen lashes sans flakes, smudges, or clumps.”

-Deanna Pai, Elite Daily

“I love bareMinerals BarePro Performance Wear Liquid Foundation with SPF 20,” [Beauty Influencer,] Flor Pereira says. “It feels as if you have nothing on, but at the same time gives you amazing coverage. My skin feels better somehow.”

-Teen Vogue

“Plump, juicy and fresh looking lips are only a swipe away thanks to bareMinerals’ Gen Nude collection. With 15 fleshy hues to choose from, every skin tone is catered for, and the formula [GEN NUDE Buttercream Lip Gloss] feels oh-so-silky, not cloying or sticky.”

Elle UK

“Brands like bareMinerals… incorporate camellia extract (which supports skin collagen), mineral-rich salts (to purify and gently cleanse), papaya enzyme (a gentle exfoliator that helps brighten), and long-life herb (a leafy green that helps improve skin resilience to reduce visible signs of aging) into many of their products. And they take the power of good ingredients a step further by also committing to non-toxic and cruelty-free products, doubling down on clean, natural beauty.”

“Not only are the [GEN NUDE Eyeshadow] shades highly pigmented and long-lasting, they’re also packed with incredible ingredients like soothing cucumber extract and antioxidant-rich algae. So you can achieve any look — subtle or dramatic — while also caring for the delicate skin around your eyes.”

-Kate Marin, Elite Daily

“By being full of what’s good and free of anything potentially harmful, these products are not only safe, but they offer serious perks, too. Take bareMinerals Gen Nude Radiant Lipstick, for example. The creamy formula hydrates lips with a combination of mango, cocoa, and shea butters instead of the usual petrolatum, which comes from oil refining.”

-Deanna Pai, The Zoe Report

“There used to be a pervasive myth that natural beauty products weren’t as effective, but that’s certainly no longer the case. Not only are the formulas high-performance, pigmented, and long lasting (bareMinerals BAREPRO Glow Highlighter lasts up to 16 hours), they also rely on powerful botanical ingredients whose benefits are backed by legitimate clinical testing. In fact, this is the very foundation of the bareMinerals clean without compromise promise.”
