How We’ve Kept 44,000 Pounds of Packaging Out of Landfills

Here are bareMinerals, we’re constantly inspired by nature and all its wonder. So, we care deeply about protecting and giving back to the planet. That’s why we started the Give Back, Get Back Recycling Program. You can bring empty beauty products — from any brand — to a bareMinerals boutique, and we’ll recycle them for you, ensuring they are disposed of in the most environmentally-friendly way possible.

The program was spearheaded by Gina Tarallo, manager of our Palm Desert boutique, which is located in California’s Coachella Valley. In 2018, she pitched a large-scale bareMinerals recycling program to senior executives as part of a company-wide innovation challenge. She ended up landing the top prize, and just six months later, we had already diverted 29,000 pounds worth of cosmetics empties from landfills. Today, that number is up to 44,957 pounds.

Needless to say, the program continues to have a big impact. But when you recycle with us, you’re not just helping keep the earth clean — you’re also earning points through our loyalty program. 1 item recycled = 5 points. In other words, it’s a win-win.

Here’s how it works:

-Bring your full-size makeup and skincare empties from any brand to any bareMinerals boutique and drop them at the stand labeled “Give Back, Get Back.”

-We are currently accepting the following products: primer, mascara, lip gloss, lipstick, lip liner, makeup brushes, blush, eyeshadow, eyeliner, foundation, concealer, serum, cleanser, moisturizer and masks.

-We are not currently accepting the following products: Aerosols, perfume, nail polish, cleansing pads, hair products, deodorant, lip balm, body wash, shaving cream, talcum powder, toothpaste, any flammable products or packaging.

-For each item you recycle, we’ll reward you with 5 points (maximum 5 items per day, per customer).
