How We Made Our Holiday Collection More Sustainable Than Ever

By Jen Anderson | November 5, 2020

Being clean and conscious is in our DNA. Since the beginning, we’ve always wanted to help people look good, feel good and do good. That’s why we’ve been working hard behind the scenes to take things a step further and lower our environmental impact, beginning a journey of sustainability which will continue well into the future.

So where are we starting? Our 2020 holiday collection. This year, we invite you to give the gift of clean beauty that cares for skin, the planet and the community. Our limited-edition collection is taking a significant step forward with an assortment of clean holiday beauty gift sets, which are not just filled with good-for-skin gifts, but are also planet-friendly. By incorporating less plastic, switching to eco-friendly cosmetic packaging and providing no-wrap gifting, this holiday collection is filled with so much joy. Take a look at how we’ve done it, ahead.

Less Plastic = Less Waste

This year, we used less plastic in the holiday collection than ever before, so you can feel good about gifting. To achieve this, we reduced our packaging sizes, eliminated plastic windows and trays, and incorporated post-consumer recycled plastic into our product packaging to reduce the amount of virgin plastic used.

Our Eco-Friendly Materials

As we replace plastic with paper — including new palettes that are easy to recycle and produce minimal waste — it’s crucial to ensure we’re respecting our forests. All paper used in our holiday collection has been certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). FSC-certified paper comes from forests that are responsibly managed to protect habitats, prevent pollution, plant more trees than are harvested, and avoid harming wildlife or displacing native people. Plus, we’re working to reuse existing materials. Among our eco-friendly cosmetic packaging, you’ll discover festive makeup bags made from plastic bottles, lipstick tubes crafted with recycled aluminum and recycled plastic brush handles, jar caps and more.

No Wrapping Necessary

To help prevent the creation of unnecessary waste, our holiday makeup gift sets have been designed to look like pre-wrapped gifts, using recyclable, FSC-certified paper. Each set is festively decorated and makes a covetable gift as-is — no gift wrap necessary. We partnered with Brooklyn-based artist Sarah Bachman who created a hand-drawn, nature-inspired pattern just for us. With icons representing love, nature and joy, Sarah perfectly captured the spirit of the holiday season.

Giving to the Greater Good

We’re committed to giving back to people and the planet. For every purchase made in a bareMinerals boutique or on our website, we donate 1%* to The Power of Good Fund by bareMinerals, to help empower women around the world through education, mentorship and entrepreneurialism.

In addition, we invite you to recycle beauty empties (from any brand) at your bareMinerals boutique while shopping this season. So far, we have recycled over 44,000 pounds of plastic through our year-round Give Back, Get Back Recycling Program.

*We will support The Power of Good Fund by bareMinerals by donating 1% of sales from our boutiques and bareMinerals.com to Hopewell Fund. Donations will be made on sales, less any returns or discounts, starting April 1, 2019 through December 31, 2020 and include a minimum contribution of $1,000,000. Hopewell Fund is a 501(c)(3) public charity that specializes in helping donors, social entrepreneurs, and other changemakers launch new, innovative social change projects.
