Here, we’ve chatted with Blass Laner, Learning Design Manager for Global Education at bareMinerals, to learn all about the complexion-boosting benefits of SKINLONGEVITY Serum and how to best pair skincare with foundation.

If I already use a primer before foundation, why does it matter what kind of skincare I use?

Skincare works at the skin barrier and below, helping to improve skin and any concerns you may have. Take large pores, for instance — the PORELESS Skincare Collection will help to reduce excess oil and reduce the look of pores over time. Primer will help to make your foundation look better and smoother, and will blur the appearance of pores and wrinkles, but it won’t correct in the same way. For best results, use both!

How does a strong skin barrier help my makeup look better?

A strong skin barrier, which SKINLONGEVITY Serum promotes, helps to keep the good stuff in and the bad stuff out. It helps keep the skin’s surface intact, supple and hydrated by preventing moisture from escaping. Additionally, a strong barrier helps to defend skin from environmental stressors like free radicals and pollution, which damage skin and can result in visible signs of aging.

Keeping skin healthy and moisturized helps prevent signs of aging like fine lines and wrinkles, as well as dry, flaky skin. All of this means you’ve got a smoother canvas for makeup to go on more evenly.

Why are clean ingredients important in both makeup and skincare? How is pairing clean makeup and clean skincare beneficial?

Clean ingredients are so important! Certain chemicals in skincare and/or makeup may be harmful to you and to the environment. Think of it like reading the ingredient label on packaged food — we know that if everything’s highly processed and nothing is natural, it’s harder on your body and typically, it’s not good for you. It’s the same with skincare and makeup. Look for products with clean, naturally derived ingredients, as well as carefully chosen clean synthetics (technology is amazing!).

Can I pair SKINLONGEVITY with any bareMinerals foundation?

Yes, absolutely! SKINLONGEVITY helps to smooth and brighten the skin, so your foundation will look even better. I love to mix a pump of the serum into BAREPRO Performance Wear Liquid Foundation. When I’m looking for a bit less coverage, I’ll add to the foundation in my hands and apply with fingertips. You can also try it with the NEW ORIGINAL Liquid Foundation for a touch more luminosity.

What is the proper skincare routine order? When should I apply SKINLONGEVITY Serum?

 We recommend using it morning and night for best results. Apply 1-2 pumps to skin after cleansing and before adding your moisturizer. I love to mix my serum into a moisturizer, too, when I want to change the texture of my moisturizer. I love BUTTER DRENCH Restorative Rich Cream in the winter; I’ll add a pump of the serum at night for extra strengthening.

SKINLONGEVITY creates a radiant look. Does it also work under a matte foundation?

 Absolutely! If you’re going for a true matte finish, such as with BAREPRO Foundation, just make sure skin has absorbed the serum before you apply the foundation. It will go on more smoothly and your skin will stay hydrated.

Should I apply SKINLONGEVITY as well as a primer? Or can I apply the serum and then foundation?

It’s all about preference and which foundation you are using. SKINLONGEVITY is an absolute must – don’t skip this one in your skincare regimen. Primers help to lengthen the wear of your makeup and create a smooth canvas; if you’re wearing ORIGINAL Loose Mineral Foundation or BAREPRO Foundation, I recommend using PRIME TIME Original Foundation Primer. I love COMPLEXION RESCUE Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream on the weekends or for errands; I’ll typically skip primer then because I’m not going for a full makeup look.
