5 Minutes with Rosie Huntington-Whiteley
Have you met Rosie? The multi-tasking model, mom and beauty entrepreneur recently joined bareMinerals as our Beauty Ambassador and we couldn’t be more excited. Positive, approachable and always willing to share a beauty secret, she sat down with us to dish on everything from peel-off nail varnish to her ultimate makeup inspiration.
First things first: why did you choose to work with bareMinerals?
For me, I love to work with brands that I truly believe in, brands that have integrity, brands that have products that really work and make a difference in my life. My first memory of bareMinerals would probably have been as a teenager. I remember the ORIGINAL Loose Powder Foundation being the most iconic product at the time – and it still is. It’s also still a much-loved product of mine.
When did you start wearing makeup?
I’ve always loved makeup and I would say I was probably allowed to start playing around with it when I was about 12 or 13. The first thing I ever bought was a sparkly blue eye shadow and peel-off nail varnish. And then skincare… as a young girl, I probably didn’t have to worry about my skin too much until the onslaught of acne at about 14 or 15, and ever since then, I’ve been on the hunt for products that work for me.
My mom was the first person I ever got to watch doing makeup – I used to go in and watch her get ready for work or for a night out. For me, it was just fascinating and so inspiring to see her go from being my mom to being this kind of glamorous figure that I looked up to. So I’ve always associated beauty with glamour, and beauty with confidence. It’s one of my favorite memories really of my mom, that time together.
How has your beauty regime changed over the years?
Over the years, I have probably become more educated — more informed. I’ve been working now for close to 16 years, which is crazy. I have had the chance to work with the most amazing makeup artists throughout my career. I ask a lot of questions and it’s just really helped enlighten me on the benefits of clean products and making those better choices for myself.
You always appear so pulled together and glamorous. How do manage, with everything going on in your life?
I feel like I’m most women who are just trying to juggle everything all at once, and it can be kind of overwhelming some days. Work, family life, friends and social life, and all the other things that go on day-to-day, I feel sometimes like I’m trying to keep up with it all. I’m glad it looks pulled together and effortless but there are a lot of moving pieces that go on behind the scenes, for sure.
Do you have a beauty philosophy? Tell us about how clean fits into your lifestyle.
I think beauty always starts from the inside out. Simple as that.
Having a clean lifestyle, to me, means making the best choices that I can, making informed choices, and choosing products that work without compromise. I think small, clean choices throughout my day can lead to a better and brighter future for myself and my family.
I try to follow a clean lifestyle, though I’m not super regimented about it. I try and follow the 80/20 rule. I make the best choices that I can in the moment, and I try to eat and use clean products at home. I’m traveling so much so I always try and follow the rule of being as clean as I can when I’m at home. And then, when I’m out and about, or I’m at work or I’m traveling, it’s kind of whatever goes.
Tell us about your skincare routine.
My skin is the canvas of everything I do so it comes first; I invest as much time and energy into the best products that I can for my body.
For me, the most important step of my skincare routine would be really about putting the goodness back into it. I want it to glow, feel hydrated and great. I’ve been using the SKINLONGEVITY products for some time now and I’ve just seen incredible results in how plump and dewy my skin looks.
What’s your relationship with makeup? How do you feel without makeup on?
I feel makeup should be about enhancing, rather than hiding what you have. I love makeup and will usually have a little bit on when I’m leaving the house. For me, it just adds to my confidence. I enjoy playing up my features and just the creative piece of it.
When I’m not wearing makeup, I focus my time on my skincare. Skincare is such a big part of my beauty routine, and so without makeup, I spend a lot more time focusing on my skincare. That being said, the only time I go out without makeup on is really to go to the gym. Otherwise, I always have a little bit of something on as you never know who you’re going to run into. But on the weekends, or if I’m at home and I’m not going out, I really just like to concentrate on being kind of natural, not having anything on my skin and giving it a chance to breathe. I like to use the time to put on a mask and use my skincare products, just to feel clean and natural.
Describe your perfect night-out look.
I would either choose to play up my eyes or my lips. For my eyes, I might do a smoky, sexy, smudgy, charcoal-y kind of look. Lots of lashes. And then for my lips, I would choose to go cleaner on the eyes paired with a bright red or bold pink or fuchsia to really accentuate.
What are your go-to bareMinerals products? What’s always with you when you travel?
My favorite is the ORIGINAL Loose Powder Foundation. I love it because it has such beautiful coverage and it’s really easy to use. I can use it just as a foundation base or I can use it on top of my foundation. I travel with it everywhere. I’ll carry it in my bag on the plane and add a little bit on my skin before touchdown. I always travel with what I call my 5-minute face. It’s just three to four products that can give me a little something when I get off the plane. I’ll use the ORIGINAL Loose Powder Foundation, which is quick to apply. Then I usually have some type of cream blusher that I can use on my cheeks and on my lips. Then a little bit of concealer and a misting spray.
